First race of the year, and truth be told, my training had slipped somewhat over the festive season. The temptation of Mulled Wine and Mince Pies seemed that little more comforting than pounding the streets in the freezing cold and wet. I entered this race to give me a motivational lift to crack on with my training, that’s exactly what it did.
It was a cold day which saw most runners wrap up warm, yet I took my normal approach of shorts and T-shirt with the addition of some rather fetching white running gloves. As the race got underway I soon warmed up and off came the gloves, the race was fairly uneventful though I remember it being hard work. I passed the 10k mark in Just over 45mins, which was only marginally slower than my current 10k PB, despite pacing myself to allow for the extra 2km, so I was happy to see I hadn’t lost much (if any) form over the winter months. I was hurting in the last 2-3k but a little camaraderie and support from other runners (particularly number 504 in the last photo) saw me get to the finish with a bit of a sprint at the end in just under 55mins. Roll on the next event!
