Only a week after the Kenilworth Half Marathon I was interested to see how I'd do in this race... In honesty it was the enticement of quite decent prizes (for a local race) together with a few friends saying what a nice event it was that made me enter. It's been so long since this race that I can't really remember much detail.

Well the weather was bloomin miserable - wet and windy, with the rain coming and going as it saw fit. The course was sodden, but as a multi-terrain course it was almost irrelevant. The race was underway as I was happy to tuck in behind some of the younger runners who burst off at high speed. I slowly edged my way past them before leading the way alongside Jack Mee, who I knew would be the one to watch out for in the race. As I mentioned earlier, I can't remember much of the race, but obviously I made a bit of a break at some point and opened up a reasonable gap, and simply remember the last mile or so I was really struggling to maintain any kind of pace, checking over my shoulder far too often to see how much breathing space I had. Even the lap around the field before the finish where I had a good 100-200m lead I was still checking over my shoulder, paranoid I could be caught.

Thankfully I wasn't... and managed to take the win (along with Trophy and sports voucher prize for the local sports shop) ahead of Jack Mee.
